To the crazy cat that appeared on an absurd night and showed us the way back home.

Prelude for Gi
My nephew Gianni used to come and play my piano on Sunday mornings. I pretended I was not teaching him, he pretended he didn’t know the notes. Together we built a piano bubble. I wanted to remember this moment with a song.

Impossible silence (Ode to my Tinnitus)
After many years of late night gigs I started suffering from the inevitable Tinnitus. I wrote this piece on an unbearable day as a backing track to the noises in my left ear.

The things we used to know
I realised we weren’t holding each other’s hearts anymore on a sad Friday morning. The night had gone and we had not once looked into each other’s eyes. We had forgotten how to make each other laugh, dream and love. We did not know who we were anymore.

Jack the horse
Everytime I went to my therapy with horses I felt my heart grow bigger and lighter. Jack is an ex racehorse full of energy and humor who taught me a great deal about myself and my relationships with the people around me. His playfulness and love will always brighten my days.

Cuban Shadow
I can't escape the fact that I was born in a
historically unfortunate country. Politics and economics always get in the way of seeing those I love. Frustration and hopelessness hit a new high this year, when I realised we could not be together.

Danzón para volver a soñar
Melbourne 2021. When there was no live music or hope, this piece reminded me to keep dreaming, creating and of course, dancing.

Grief is a winding road
The loss, the void, the unpredictability, the resilience, the beauty, the bliss, the long journey….

Orchid Poem (a mi tía Betty)
My aunty Betty had the most beautiful orchids on her balcony in Havana. She nurtured me with kisses and hugs. She was living over there, on the other side of the world and I did not see her go. She leaves me with her loud and profound laugh forever. The sweetest of my melodies are for her.
